From a Group Chat to a Cultural Movement

TakaFest began as a humble group chat on August 19, 2019, at the University of Benin. What started as a space for gamers and anime lovers to connect quickly evolved into something much bigger. United by passion and culture, this growing community soon earned a reputation as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising pop culture hubs.

Our early members named the group "TakamagaHara", inspired by Japanese mythology—it translates to "Home of the Gods." And that name set the tone for everything to come: a bold, creative space where everyone could feel at home.

Growing Beyond Borders

By 2023, TakamagaHara had expanded far beyond Edo State, reaching anime and gaming fans all across Nigeria. That same year, we made history by launching Benin’s first-ever anime convention: Taka Anime Fest 2023.

It was a massive success—fans, cosplayers, creators, and culture lovers came together from all over the country to celebrate what we love. In 2024, we returned even stronger with Taka Anime Fest 2.0, solidifying our place as a major player in Nigeria’s entertainment and fan convention space.

Today, our calendar is packed with exciting experiences for our ever-growing community, including the Taka Sports Festival, the electric Taka After Party, and our casual Taka Get-Togethers. We’re building a community that supports creativity, celebrates identity, and connects people through shared passions.
